Her eyes are full of the kind of light That cuts laser-like through your habits How I love the words 'Dancing Queen' On the back of her satin jacket She likes tormenting late night barmen Sending them back and forth for slices of lemon My heart went boom as she mesmerized the room My heart went boom with a mix of love And a sense of impending doom Elements of her mind get lost between the olive and the martini I wave an imaginary twelve-star flag In the hope she might see me She's not the kind to take any kind of nonsense She says hanging's too good for Boris Johnson And it is My heart went boom as she mesmerized the room My heart went boom with a mix of love And a sense of impending doom You're never entirely free From the danger of the right smile at the wrong moment The meeting of light and dust, a skyline, Shadows and a heart that's homeless Then there's glitter everywhere Mostly when you thought you didn't care Boom… My heart went boom as she mesmerized the room My heart went boom

Charm School 03:37
She never went to a charm school She didn't really need to She can charm sunbeams to light up her dreams She can charm anything at all out of me Charm is a colour I was painted without Blurting things out and sarcasm don't really count I could cure all my ills with some social skills But don't go holding your breath Charm won't be on the radar any time soon yet If you've got the heart you claim Let me hear it beat, stop playing charm school games Charm is a colour that even shades the way she walks A flash of an eye and it's game over, the idea's sold and bought She has the morals of quite an immoral alley cat If I'm honest with myself, I quite like that If you've got the heart you claim Let me hear it beat, stop playing the charm school games Lavender oil steaming in the bath Violins floating through the steam She lies back and softly laughs Pouring the charm down the phone to me, to me If you've got the heart you claim Let me hear it beat, stop playing games If you've got the heart, if you've got the heart you claim Let it shout aloud, stop playing your charm school games

Love seemed a lonely place I walked into that place and we came face to face How much memory space for that glittering file? Your head on my shoulder outside time If there's a minor heartbreak It's just a thing I know I can take She disappeared into the timeslip again She's velvet in tone Would she like a shoulder if she cries? In a minor heartbreak Love wasn't even our second favourite word We said it so quietly was I even sure I heard? Now she's my guardian angel and I try to be hers Oh those eyes - the girl in black velvet with my heart inside If there's a minor heartbreak It's just a thing I know I can take She disappeared into the timeslip again She's velvet in tone Would she like a shoulder if she cries? In a minor heartbreak I had a beautiful dream that I dreamt the most Cut London and Scotland off from the Yarmouths and Stokes And into the sunset we would all float And I'm even past caring if we don't In a minor heartbreak

When the punters arrive I take a while to get up from the screen They can wait for their tickets, I'm lost in a dream I make it look like I'm hooked up to a transport hub Instead of tabloid girls and broken love I rise from the nerve centre of planetary train news To note with dismay there's an angry queue I'm loath to lament (The trains are fucked, is England fucked?) I wonder where all the time went (The trains are fucked, is England fucked?) Sunbeams poured onto my train-set in my lair I ran it round again as they called up the stairs I dreamt of running the trains out of St Pancras And I'm stuck in the sticks with all of these wankers At least in the old days they'd shout and moan Now they just get drunk and stare at their phones I'm loath to lament (The trains are fucked, is England fucked?) I wonder where all the time went (The trains are fucked, is England fucked?) I heard the St Pancras minor chords from afar I danced a waltz up to the champagne bar I was hooked up to the network, I ran the game I swapped spam for caviar, cold tea for champagne I'm loath to lament where all the time went The trains are fucked Is England fucked?

That close-up of her eye, Italian darkness A vivid dream leaps off the screen And reverse blurs back into sharpness Conservations cut off as the little girl came in You might mean well but how to tell? The photos that get lost, the steps that get missed That girl's life is in the photo And when you look into her eyes, you know… And now that she's all grown-up And she found out the darker truth With the sun in her eyes She wakes to find a letter of photos from the past With dark eyes that burn just like hers do That girl's life is in the photo When you look into her eyes, you know… Something went so wrong all that way back A box of photos now won't act as a payback You missed out on her, it's too late for the truth She's grown up pretty great without you When you look into her eyes, you know…

Chinese Burn 02:15
Here she comes again, that nurse I like I know she's undressed under her clothes Knowing that makes my blood run faster Blood tests are easier I suppose She says "If you love me, why don't you move your toes?" Everything she says, everything she does Is like a Chinese Burn They're going spare in the room next door Somebody's hidden matron's bag I got the time to think and I don't think that's a good thing They're telling me things are really bad She says "You'd grass your friends up if you loved me, Me and the drugs are the only friends you need" She's like a Chinese Burn
7.
The hills and the snow were like a lock down In the darkest winter night rang out your rocking sound A maniac stood shouting as you played "These are going to be my friends", I knew straight away Everyone says hi… I live in my own world for sure, for sure For a while way back then I lived in yours That fabulous fifties world Your brilliant Gretsch, cars and girls Your mile-wide smile lit up the room and now it's everywhere I turn Everyone says hi… And there's a little juke joint on the outside of town Cats pick 'em up and lay them down You get your girl and I'll get mine And we'll get together and have a good time Everyone says hi We look at the sky It's because we want to say goodbye, goodbye Everyone says hi

Our love is like a London train Hours spent waiting in the rain 12:36 at Kings Cross, carnage on the disco train Please watch over me and guide me home again Free papers and junk food strewn around Drunk conversations’ random sounds Our kisses fell asleep and missed their stop And came home with the milkman all fucked up Our love is like a London train And I don't mean that in a good way We knew what time we started out Who knows when we'll get home again? There's no-one there you can ask anyway I often think they should renationalize them Tempers flare, plates go flying Hearts are breaking, hours spent waiting The explanations are just grating Our love is like a London train Like a London train… 12:36 on the disco train Hours spent waiting in the rain They never explain and you never complain That's the London trains
9.
Those Eyes 02:52
Those eyes are blurred but vivid green Like gleaming pools reflecting trees A deep liquid mirror reflecting my heart Things I try on and don't quite believe I like to think they're Jaguar green Sometimes they go off into a dream Then snap back laughing in the heat haze In the park under a canopy of trees Those eyes, those eyes - they want what's right for me They want what's right for me Those eyes blink open on Sunday morning They call around the room for me You couldn't take a photo to capture their shine There's just the moment to see Anxiety makes you organized I planned to take those green pools on a bus ride Baby let's get our tickets punched By the Lordship Lane Gainsbourg who's counting the holes until lunch Those eyes, those eyes - they want what's right for me They want what's right for me Those eyes, those eyes - they want what's right for me They shine so bright for me Those eyes aren't even from here And some days they feel like they're the only thing Keeping this silly little island from exploding… with a BANG…

She lit the blue touch paper With 'Swimming Pools' full of her dark eyes She didn't retire to a safe distance away from the fire I said "why don't you really kiss me this time?" She determinedly pushed back her hair And put her hands in mine If you light the blue touch paper don't be surprised If someone quite close to you gets set on fire It's burning dark like your eyes And it's all right, it's all right The Shipping Forecast said there'd be fireworks The clouds started to spin We wasted time in the park with the summer rain on our skin She smelt of perfume, cigarettes and sun I wonder if I'd ever liked a mix of perfumes quite as much If you light the blue touch paper don't be surprised If someone quite close to you gets set on fire It's burning dark like your eyes It's all right, it's all right She's like an hour waiting in the rain She's lighting fires with me again She's just afraid of the slightest touch And of course love Let it burn…

This is the blue corner calling from the top of the dial I haven’t been in this situation for a while Some days I've got a spectacular talent for not making you smile The world's right again when you just kiss me Things become the way we might want them to be A girl so beautiful you'd want to paint her Or at least take a photo with a phone later There are points of view for which I find I’ve got a lot of time I don’t think I’ll try them out on her tonight Our two hearts in the blue corner Miles apart in the blue corner If we love each other in our two corners What good could that be to me? The moon's tired of drinking The stars are stumbling home Dawn's waiting in the wings, fumbling for a comb I hear the town waking up Is it time perhaps to go home? Our two hearts in the blue corner Miles apart in the blue corner If we love each other in our two corners What good could that be to me? That was the blue corner calling from the top of the dial My world is painted so bright when you smile But this is the blue corner calling from the top of the dial Oh it's all so blue in here My world is a million shades of blue without you

En Amande 03:58
A band of white gold, no more than a sliver Making it's point, left hand third finger Metaphorically speaking, the finger was flipped Some days I'm so far off the radar, I'm barely a blip In a moment, then in a moment… I might find out everything A drunken choir started to sing Somebody's wedding, somebody else's ring She said "you don't have to say the first thing in your mind" With a shot of her almond eyes I heard every stupid single syllable I said echo twice Somebody's uncle fell over in time There's such a distance between our kinds of lives I'd need a space telescope to see her world from mine It was a moment, a moment… I might find out everything There have to be people who aren't messed-up To go around picking the rest of us up I might find out everything "En Amande"…
13.
Angela 02:27
We fell in love too quickly like a runaway train Walking round the summer town on a cloud and in a haze She took my hand so softly, love is a lonely place We overdid just about everything too soon, too soon Angela, Angela, wear that dress for me Angela, Angela, you’re where I want to be From the human ashtrays to the sunny morning street Every cat wonders what went wrong Every paving-stone echoes your feet We only speak in emoticons I’m not sure what they convey We overdid just about everything too soon, too soon Angela, Angela, wear that dress for me Angela, Angela, you’re where I want to be

Sometimes I like to sit out at night on my front door step with my cat. I can hear people's television, people arguing, people talking to babies. Maybe I can imagine them in or out of love. I can hear their texts pinging across the universe. In the afternoon I saw the bowlers in their whites on the green coming in for tea. There's a trough in the street for horses and dogs but now it's filled with flowers. At night I think about the afternoon street and how now those people are winding themselves down like clocks. I can almost feel a story in every house - the baby next door, the 90-year old man the next house down and then suddenly… a cat fizzes across the street like a shooting star across the sky. My own cat sits next to me and we while away this last hour. The things that seemed important that had to be done, that had to be a source of worry, well they just don't matter any more. The orange glow of the streetlights throws long shadows and I wonder why I can't feel this way at every moment of the day. The wild roses blaze red in the darkness and I wonder where the birds go to sleep. I wonder where the birds go to sleep. Somewhere within memories we keep. High in the London trees, just out of reach. Where the birds go to sleep. Good night, God bless.

Imagine you're actually there on the dark side Weren't the algorithms supposed to put you on the light? It's shrill, someone's screaming, hate isn't a crime Everyone's entitled to an opinion right? You have to realize we're all living in an echo chamber Everything seems fucked because of this unavoidable fact You only ever hear things you like and agree with Nobody's talking back Imagine any of this actually might be true It'll take a micro-second of your time 57 varieties of bad communication And even less understanding coming down the wire Make it easy on yourself Only ever listen to your friends Thus the extremes become the centre This film's looking a lot like the end You have to realize we're all living in an echo chamber Everything seems fucked because of this unavoidable fact You only ever hear things you like and agree with Nobody's talking back Imagine you're actually there on the dark side When the algorithms put you in the light It's shrill, someone's screaming, hate isn't a crime But everyone's entitled to an opinion right? You have to realize we're all in an echo chamber Everything's fucked… Echo chamber Oh the danger How and where in the world would you ever listen to a stranger?
16.
I used to see her hanging round my neighbourhood Making noise in Spanish by the flats I counted every single rose as I was walking down the road I learnt to tell the time from all the cats Painting the world in vivid red - that's her job for sure Like the deep red roses round her door I saw her come out of the heat haze Her bruises and black eyes were just a blur I sat her down on my front step And I tried to make sense out of what she said Her Dad had taken everything out on her The sunbeams come and pick her up whenever she's on the floor Like the deep red roses round her door She never really cried The deepest bruises were inside At A and E I explained as best I could Although I wasn't sure I understood about the roses And how they bloomed in the light I met her in the park a few years later Her kids were laughing and dancing on the lawn She had a smile ten miles wide as she ate ice cream outside She said "never forget that roses all have thorns" Now the sunbeams come and pick me up whenever I'm on the floor Like the deep red roses round her door And then she paints the world in vivid red - that's her job for sure Like the deep red roses round her door

When my uncle comes to stay My mum and dad call him plenty of names He's playing his clarinet in the morning I hear them mutter "oh God put it away" My uncle's had hundreds of girls, He's been away, he's been all over the world He always brings me a new football programme And stories to make my hair curl He can make his clarinet roar He hid his tears behind the green door saying "don't say a word kid" He can make his clarinet roar He said "don't say a word kid", "don't say a word" At Christmas he had a job at a party Bouncing kids on his knee and smelling of beer On Christmas Eve I crept downstairs To see Santa kissing Mrs Jones from next door And her dress had disappeared AS IF BY MAGIC Now my Gran says he's made his excuses Whatever he does, he always loses He's got this 'broken heart', I wonder if that hurts? He's gone away to find out what the truth is He can make his clarinet roar He hid his tears behind that green door saying "don't say a word kid" He can make his clarinet roar He said "don't say a word kid", "don't say a word" Because it's Christmas.

There are horrible people everywhere They're all over the streets, hiding under your stairs Their minds are full of shit You can't get away from it There are horrible people everywhere You have to be polite to them but you don't care Cos their minds are full of shit There's just no end to it

about

Ça sonne parfois country-folk ('Everyone Says Hi') ou latino-Morricone ('London Trains') mais aussi, et, plus surprenant, jazz ('In The Blue Corner') ou spoken word ('Where The Birds Go To Sleep').
